Donations and consignments to the Oz Club Auction can be arranged by contacting the auctioneer: Bill Thompson 32 Upton Park Rochester, NY 14607 email: InvisiBill@rochester.rr.com voice: (585) 461-4694 The primary purposes of the Oz Club auction are two-fold: 1) to provide members with the opportunity to enhance their personal collections in a private setting, insulated from global competition. and 2) to raise money to pay Club expenses. The International Wizard of Oz Club has been determined to be a 501(c)(3) educational organization. Donations to the Club are deductible in accordance with IRS policies. Consignments are accepted only on the following terms: The consignor accepts a return of no greater than 50% of the auction sale price of any item. There are no guarantees concerning bidder enthusiasm for any item; however, on a limited basis, a consignor may specify a minimum selling price, meaning that, should that minimum price be met, the consignor will receive the requested percentage of that price up to 50%. The Oz Club's share of each consignment sale is considered a donation. Donations and consignments are gratefully accepted for books, media, art, and collectible items that span the realms of Oz, L Frank Baum, Ruth Plumly Thompson, W W Denslow, John R Neill and the other authors, illustrators, events and productions associated with Oz and/or L Frank Baum. Shipment of donated items to the auctioneer can be arranged at any time. At the request of the donor, the Oz Club will refund the cost of shipment for donated items. However, a round of correspondence ahead of time is appropriate for all donations, and a list of the items with whatever details are known would be very helpful. It is difficult to estimate what Club members will bid on any item; therefore, advance valuations are not possible as a general rule. Donation of a collection to the Oz Club, however, may be handled specially, in some cases. Since some part of such a collection may be retained by the Club, a fair market value appraisal may be offered on request of the donor. All consignments must be shipped pre-paid to the auctioneer or hand-delivered at least one day before the auction. The return of unsold consignments is also at the expense of the consignor unless hand-delivered at the auction site or by other arrangement. If hand-delivered at an Oz Club convention, as much advance notification as possible would be appreciated as to the exact nature of each donated or consigned item. All auction items need to be cataloged before the auction, so that bids can be properly recorded and invoices can be generated for each high bidder. There is no guarantee that items donated or consigned will be sold at the next occurring Oz Club auction. Similar items may already have been donated or consigned to the Club. Additionally, the auctioneer strives to provide at each auction a variety of items that will peak a variety of interests; some items just need to wait until a later auction. A record of the origin of donated and consigned items is kept by the auctioneer, so that letters of appreciation, specifying the amount of the donation, can be sent to all donors each year that items are sold. Consignments and donations may, at the discretion of the auctioneer, be offered as part of the live auction or the silent auction, which takes place at the same time as the live auction. A description of each silent auction item is displayed with it, but there is no active sales pitch presented other than periodic reminders to get silent auction bids placed during breaks in the live auction. If a consignor wants to restrict any specific items to the live auction, such restrictions must be negotiated with the auctioneer in advance. There is not always room in the live auction for additional items offered in the days just before an auction; however, every effort will be made to comply with such requests, and, if approved by the donor/consignor, such items may be retained for a later live auction.
