I enjoyed my time as an editor of Oziana.  I never knew what would come across my desk...an extension of the series or a completely new story using only a few of the familiar characters and places.  Whatever it was, it was Oz, it was “good stuff,” and it was highly creative.  Those were the rules, and the material we published stuck faithfully to the facts and spirit of the canonical series.

Oziana material comes from the convention fiction winners and from folks who send stories to the editor.  I never knew when I’d get a manuscript, and I always enjoyed reading them as they came in, even though we couldn’t publish them all.  Fortunately, IWOC has quite a few very talented writers who take advantage of Oziana’s public platform.  It was never boring.

Oziana has come a long way since 1970. That was when high school student Gary Ralph started what was then a rather primitive fiction magazine. Progress is obvious if you ever get a chance to see the old issues.  Our current editor John Bell is considerably more computer literate than I was (and am), and his editorship shows that.  Oziana is a slick production now, worthy of the excellence inside its covers.
