Program Flyer & Registration Form (pdf)Join us Saturday afternoon for Dreamer of Oz on the big screen at the Hollywood Blvd. Theater, introduced by Robert Baum. A great-grandson of L. Frank Baum, Bob and his family were actively involved in this 1990 made-for-television production both on-camera and off. Bob has wonderful stories to share... Did you know that he personally filled the set of L. Frank Baum's home office filmed in Dreamer of Oz with the author's actual private collection? In honor of L. Frank Baum's 150th birthday, the Oz Club is pleased to present Bob and Clare Baum as Frank and Maud Baum, recreating great moments from the celebrated author's life. We'll hear from Bob throughout the weekend as we turn to him often for information about his beloved ancestor. Angelica Carpenter, IWOC President and author of L. Frank Baum: Royal Historian of Oz, will discuss Baum's Aunt Jane's Nieces books for girls. Often drawn from his own life's experience, this popular series gave Baum the chance to write non-fantasy stories that reflected contemporary society. (See www.AngelicaCarpenter.com). David Moyer has developed a new presentation for Ozmopolitans. "Through Sicily, Italy and Paris with L. Frank and Maud" follows their footsteps through Europe. David illustrates how Baum later revisited those adventures in his published novels. Special guest Sue Stauffacher will discuss her own children's novel, Harry Sue. In this book, which is set in the present time, the young heroine endures great hardship by turning to the life lessons she's learned reading her favorite book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. For more about Harry Sue, see www.suestauffacher.com. (Don't miss the curriculum page where you find the 'Wizard of Oz Cheats!') Jim Ginavan, director of The Oz Museum, in Wamego, Kansas, gives Ozmopolitans an up-close look at this Oz collector's dream display. We've asked Peter Hanff to present his popular talk about the influence of the Chicago area arts & crafts movement on the design of L. Frank Baum's books. Also expect an exhibit or presentation showing how different illustrators and adaptors have helped keep the original Oz story visually appealing to kids through the years. Shop with Oz book and merchandise vendors Saturday. Costumes are a great way to ensure fun times; be sure to bring yours. Join our Oz Show-n-Tell session. Bring your favorite Oz book other than The Wizard of Oz. Tell us what makes it great! Attention Oz Collectors: Attend our Saturday afternoon auction of Oz books and Collectibles; support our Club as your collection grows.
