Double Celebration: Ozma of Oz's 100th Birthday & 50th Anniversary of the International Wizard of Oz Club

NOTE: this is preliminary information!

The 2007 Winkie Convention and Oz Collectors Fair celebrates the one-hundred anniversary of the publication of L. Frank Baum's "Ozma of Oz" and the fiftieth anniversary of the International Wizard of Oz Club with one of the strongest Oz programs ever put together on the West Coast. Expect a program with a variety of presentations to help us celebrate L. Frank Baum's wide-ranging contributions to Oz and children's literature.

Our auction coordinator and auctioneer will be Bill Thompson. He is pulling together some exciting things to offer, including some of Baum's Boy Fortune Hunters Series titles, Copp-Clark Canadian issues of the Oz books with color plates, some Christmas Stocking Series books, and some of Ruth Plumly Thompson's pamphlet-format stories. The auction each year showcases the breadth of L. Frank Baum's influence on American children's books and collectibles.

The great popularity of our Saturday morning seminar on collecting, collectors, and booksellers will result in our scheduling one or more seminars for Saturday morning. In addition, we are planning to encourage sellers of books and collectibles to plan on being accessible for many more hours than has been possible in recent years.

Winners will be named in our traditional Oz costume contest, and in competitions for original Oz fiction, research, and art work. Oz quizzes for children, adults, and Oz masters will also be part of the weekend. Bring your curious finds to the Oz Collectibles Road Show where experts help collectors identify what you have and what it may be worth in today's market. Expect to see a newly revived Oz treasure hunt on Sunday morning, too. If you have questions or suggestions about the program, please email to the Chair of the Program Planning Committee, Lynn Beltz (ferrywa@televar.com). Direct questions about reservations to Registrar, Peter Hanff (phanff@library.berkeley.edu).

The beautiful seaside Asilomar Conference Grounds (in Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula in California) serves once again as our Ozzy Oasis, but space is limited, so register early!
