American Home Entertainment Announces Oz, First-Time Home Video Collection of the Four Rarely-Seen Original Film Versions of L. Frank Baum's Oz Books

--Perfect for Film Buffs and Family Viewing--

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA, November 18, 1996 -- American Home Entertainment proudly announces the release of Oz, the four-part home video collection of the original film versions of L. Frank Baum's Oz books. For anyone who thinks of Oz as Judy Garland's stomping grounds, these rarely-seen film classics provide a glorious revisit to the original Baum sources--with plenty of surprises along the way. Ideal for film buffs in search of something very different, and delightful for family viewing which appeals to all ages, Oz brings the wonderful world of Oz back with these timeless classics. In 1914, Baum himself produced and directed three films based on his beloved stories. In 1925, popular comedian Larry Semon fashioned a film based on The Wizard of Oz, with the role of the Tin Woodsman going to an unknown young actor named Oliver Hardy! In the new Oz collection, all four films are finally presented together, complete with new digital musical scores by Mark Glassman and Steffen Presley and an excellent narration by Jacqueline Lovell which successfully bridges the conventions of silent era cinema with today's tastes and expectations.

American Home Entertainment's Oz collection consists of the following titles:

His Majesty the Scarecrow of Oz.

Dorothy goes "over the rainbow" and is joined by the familiar trio of the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman and Cowardly Lion. In this journey, they do battle with the "Evil King Krewl" and the "Wicked Witch Mombi," who has placed a spell on the beautiful Princess Gloria. (Running time, 59 minutes)

The Patchwork Girl of Oz.

A magic powder brings a patchwork girl to life, and she meets the Oz favorites including the Wizard himself, as well as other characters includng Princess Ozma and the flying monkeys. Sharp-eyed viewers may also be able to spot a young Harold Lloyd in a bit part. (Running time, 67 minutes)

The Magic Cloak of Oz.

One moonlit night, the Fairies of Oz assemble in the ancient Forest of Burzee and weave a Magic Cloak which grants one wish to the person who wears it, but none if it is stolen. The cloak is given to the Man in the Moon, who recommends that it be given to the unhappiest person in Oz. A small boy named Bud received he cloak and becomes King of Noland. But when the cloak is mysteriously stolen, he sets out on a perilous journey to rediscover it. (Running time, 40 minutes)

The Wizard of Oz.

The original feature version is different from the 1939 classic! On her 18th birthday, farm girl Dorothy learns she is the rightful heir of the Kingdom of Oz (which is reached by airplane rather than a twister). With the help of three farmhands who follow her to Oz and don the disguises of Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman and Cowardly Lion, Dorothy overthrows the evil rulers and restores the splendor of the kingdom. (Running time, 96 minutes).

The Oz collection is now available at the suggested retail price of $34.95; each individual video retails separately for $12.95.
