Illinois Oz Festival; Mapleton’s annual event

Butler Haynes Park in Mapleton, Illinois takes center stage again this year Aug. 9th. This family-friendly annual celebration of Oz includes meet-and-greets with the cast members from the Spirit of Oz. Steven’s Puppets bring The Wizard of Oz to the puppet stage at the Oz Pavilion, and fans of all ages are welcome in the costume contests. Cast performances and photo opportunities, sing-alongs, Wizard of Oz memorabilia vendors, a Wicked Witch Cackling Contest, and a silent auction are among the many traditions that have made this 20-year-old festival a favorite. So many games for kids! And James and Amanda Wallace attend to sign their original Oz books.
If you’ve never been, make this the year you set your sights on Mapleton and join the fun. The grounds open at 10 and the festival wraps up with fond farewells at 5:15.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors (55+), and $3 for kids 3-12. There is no charge for kids 2 and younger.
